The photo shows me seated in one of my favorite spots on Earth—the confluence of the Babocomari (affectionately known as The Bubba to locals) and the San Pedro Rivers in southeast Arizona.
My husband and I first visited this site in the fall of 2007. It felt like home to me, and by the end of that year we’d packed up our household in Indiana and moved permanently to the area.
I’ve visited this spot many times since, and that feeling of home always washes over me.
During one of those visits, Harvey handed me an artifact he’d found lying on the ground. As soon as I held it, I understood why this area for me is home.
